Think Global Act Local: Refugee Resettlement Practicum
The refugee resettlement practicum is designed for undergraduate UC San Diego students to gain an understanding of refugee communities in San Diego and their most pressing public health needs. The course allows students to not only learn through traditional lecture styles, but also gives them a chance to get out of the classroom and create hands-on projects partnering with community organizations and refugee communities. Students work in groups to learn more about different refugee communities, conduct a needs assessment, and use their findings to develop, implement, and evaluate a public health intervention for their community. The goal of the program is to increase student awareness of forced migration, increase public health knowledge and skills, and to strengthen ties between the university, community partners, and refugee communities.
